20.11.12. Starting today, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism opens two new lines of financing for the Emprendetur program, endowed with 48 million euros. These loans are aimed at young entrepreneurs in tourism and companies with R&D projects or innovative products.

The two actions are aimed at facilitating access to financing sources that allow innovative entrepreneurs in tourism to launch their projects. These are loans with more favorable conditions than those offered by the market and, in the case of young entrepreneurs, one of the main obstacles encountered is the presentation of guarantees.

The Emprendetur program responds to the provisions of the National and Comprehensive Tourism Plan (PNIT) 2012-2015, which points out that young entrepreneurs are the group that currently has the greatest potential to introduce innovation in the management of the tourism offer, although this capacity is diminished as long as there are obstacles to accessing the sources of financing necessary to constitute the seed capital for their businesses and the launch of their projects.

Likewise, the PNIT highlights that the enormous wealth of tourism resources yet to be exploited in our country constitutes an unbeatable business opportunity for innovative entrepreneurs with initiative and good knowledge of the necessary management tools. Hence this action that fits into a series of measures that aims to stimulate innovative capacity within the Spanish tourism industry.

Emprendetur Young Entrepreneurs Program

The allocation for this section amounts to 20 million euros. The program is aimed at business ideas carried out by entrepreneurs under 40 years of age or companies that are less than 2 years old and whose average age of the partners is equal to or less than 40 years, related to innovation and tourism, and framed within the lines of the PNIT.

These grants aim to facilitate the development of innovative business models that improve the competitiveness and profitability of the Spanish tourism sector; promote the incorporation of young innovative entrepreneurs into the business tourism fabric; and support the launch of innovative projects developed by young entrepreneurs.

Among the characteristics it is worth highlighting that the loan will have a fixed interest of 5.05%, with a percentage of up to 100% financeable with a maximum amount of 1,000,000 euros, 2 years grace period, 5 years of amortization and no guarantees are requested.

Emprendetur R&D+i Program

This program, endowed with 28 million euros, includes two subprograms: the first focused on R&D projects related to technological innovation and tourism, and the second, aimed at projects linked to the development of innovative products in technology and tourism.

The objective of these two subprograms is to support research and development applied to products in the tourism sector; strengthen R&D&i processes in the tourism sector; promote the development of innovative tourism products that improve the competitiveness and profitability of the Spanish tourism sector; and provide companies with access to innovative developments to improve their tourism products with the aim of their internationalization.

Among the characteristics, the loan at 5.05% stands out, with a maximum financing of 75% and with a maximum amount of 1,000,000 euros, 5 years of amortization, and guarantees for an amount of 36% of the loan granted.

These two new tranches of financing join the already commercialized Emprendetur Empresas, endowed with 266 million euros, whose objective is to increase investment in tourist infrastructure, energy efficiency and the incorporation of technologies and accessibility for groups with special needs as well as the generation of employment, both direct and induced.
