The Secretary of State for Tourism contributes to the Plan to Promote Language Technologies with tourism content within the framework of the European project ELRI, an initiative that will optimize translation processes in Public Administrations.

The contents provided refer to the translation memory of the official tourism portal of Spain, property of Turespaña, which has been incorporated by Segittur into the project repository, making it accessible to other national organizations, as well as to the European Commission under a license allowing non-commercial use.

The initiative, in which Spain, France, Ireland and Portugal participate in the first phase, wants to respond to the difficulties related to the exchange of resources directly at the European level, through the deployment of repositories at the national level.

Likewise, it will contribute to developing new means to collect, prepare and share linguistic resources; as well as to improve human and automatic translation services at national and European level.

The ELRI project (European Language Resource Infrastructure), framed within the CEF program (Connecting Europe Facility), seeks the development of an infrastructure to collect, prepare and share linguistic resources that allow the improvement of translation services. This initiative will improve the European Union's automatic translation services, which will be freely accessible to all public institutions.

The partners of this project, coordinated by Spain through Vicomtech, are the Secretary of State for Digital Advancement (SEAD) of Spain; the Agency for Administrative Modernization, the University of Lisbon and Linkare of Portugal; Dublin City University of Ireland; and Evaluations and Language resources Distribution Agency (ELDA) of France.

As a result of this initiative, the Secretary of State for Tourism has collaborated with the Secretariat for Digital Advancement, which is promoting an infrastructure for the collection and processing of multilingual texts, which allows public administrations to provide linguistic data for reuse in the development of technological applications, such as machine translation and artificial intelligence.

This infrastructure constitutes a centralized repository where public institutions can share linguistic resources such as glossaries or translation memories and allows the automatic generation of translation memories from multilingual documents.
