Ecotourism in Spain is the most beneficial product for protected areas

This has been the main conclusion of the 7th Seminar of the Ecotourism Club in Spain, an action carried out within the framework of the agreement between MINCOTUR and MITECO to promote ecotourism in the Network of National Parks and Reserves of the Spanish Biosphere.

Held at CENEAM (Valsaín, Segovia) from June 10 to 12, the 36 participating ecotourism destination technicians and managers have learned to use the toolbox provided by the Ecotourism Association in Spain, a managing entity of this tourism product club supported by the Secretary of State for Tourism.

According to the Ecotourism Observatory in Spain, 74% of tourists who travel to protected natural spaces have ecotourism as their main motivation, that is, knowing them, interpreting them, visiting them and learning about their nature. The Observatory is the main tool of this product club, providing as measurement instruments a demand questionnaire, a survey on supply and another on the management of this type of tourist destinations.

During the seminar it was shown how the Ecotourism in Spain product is offered in protected spaces by small tourism companies that have received training to apply systems of good practices in sustainability, such as those suggested by the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism or the product Spanish Biosphere Reserves. In this way, small tourism companies improve their environmental behavior and differentiate themselves from consumers.

Anyone can be an ecotourist if they want to travel to these natural spaces and do so with local tourism companies that belong to Ecotourism Club in Spain .
