The Government of the Ministerial Order which reverses the Alfonsina Tower to the municipality of Lorca

  • The investment by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, through Turespaña, has been 486,630 euros.
  • The works consisted of restoring the cover of the humidity tower and increasing the perimeter parapet for tourist visits.

29.07.13.- The undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations, Pilar Platero, in the presence of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jódar, has signed a Ministerial Order by which The Torre Alfonsina is reverted to the Murcia Town Hall.

The City Council of Lorca gave free of charge to the General State Administration a plot in the area of ​​the castle with an area of ​​13,625 square meters for the construction of a Parador de Turismo. On December 14 of last year, the City Council requested the reversion of 2,207 square meters to be segregated from the previous property, where the Alfonsina Tower is located.

The total amount of the investment made, by Turespaña, in the properties that revert to the City Council (Alfonsina Tower and bastion) has been four hundred and eighty-six thousand six hundred and twenty-nine euros and sixty-nine cents (€486,629.69) .

The actions carried out by Turespaña consisted of the restoration of the roof of the Alfonsina Tower to solve the existing humidity problems. Likewise, the perimeter parapet at the top of the tower was increased with new courses of ashlars, in order to allow future public visits to its covered terrace.

In the “Starry Courtyard” the consolidation of its walls was carried out, the configuration of a pedestrian access path, in addition to the placement of a steel door at its eastern access. The actions were carried out with archaeological monitoring and with the express authorization of the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia.
