-
  • The objective is to analyze how creativity and innovation have generated new tourist products and services, such as driving a Formula 1 or creating cosmopolitan fashion in local businesses.
  • The eleven cases studied have generated benefits for destinations and local companies in Lanzarote, Barcelona, Asturias, Lugo or Euskadi.

02.14.2013.- Turespaña, through the Institute of Tourism Studies (IET), in collaboration with the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH), has promoted the study of 11 success cases titled “Experiencing success: creation and packaging of tourist experiences, success stories and successful experiences for tourism”, whose main objective is to emphasize how creativity and innovation, local impulse, and the capacity for cooperation have created new tourist products and services that make people feel experiences for tourists and generate benefits for the destination, local companies and SMEs.

The study brings together a series of tourist experiences such as the adventure of Driving an F1, turning a minority sport into an unrepeatable experience, or products and services are offered for very defined customer profiles and with very specific needs, such as the cycle tourists who tour Lanzarote with lava pedals. There is also a fashion case to revitalize local commerce, associating a cosmopolitan and avant-garde destination like Barcelona with an experience like Beauty&Fashion, designed for a very specific audience with a high spending capacity.

In the Commonwealth of Arousa, it has been proposed to show the attractions of the region to people with some type of disability. Another case was to design a simple tool, such as Buscounviaje.com, to connect travelers who want to create customized trips with travel agencies willing to make a specific offer available to them.

The largest European Senior Community on Facebook

The cooperation of 16 town councils and 21 localities of the Mancomunidade de la Mariña, Lugo, was also studied, which resulted in an original way of using magic as a lure for the low season. For older people, the case of the largest European Senior Community was made known on Facebook.

In Euskadi there was a case of opting to integrate the native tourist offer, idiosyncrasy and local culture, through networks of unique experiences.

Finally, the participation of small and medium-sized businesses is represented in the initiative of a rural Asturian hotel that, convinced that the spectacular landscape was the perfect setting for tourists to become detectives and add merchants to them and local SMEs, to offer an original experience that has left economic benefits for everyone.

All the new tourist experiences have managed to fill a gap in the market and are an example of how to take advantage of the cultural and natural heritage of Spain and an example of the capacity for innovation and the tourism sector of our country.
