One more year, Spain participates, through the Secretary of State for Tourism, in the EDEN Project (“European Destinations of Excellence”) of the European Commission, which in 2015 will reach its seventh edition.< p="">

The objective of the EDEN Project is to draw attention to the value and diversity of European destinations, and to publicize those emerging destinations in which sustainable tourism initiatives are being developed.

Each participating country chooses an EDEN destination in each call, which becomes part of the “EDEN destination network”. This network allows the exchange of good practices between destinations and international promotion and marketing actions.

Currently, 119 destinations in 26 different countries are part of the network. More information about the network at the following link: EDEN network

In this edition, the objective is to contribute to enhancing the visibility of those emerging European tourist destinations that have developed innovative initiatives for their tourist offer based on the specificity of local gastronomy. Candidates will have to be destinations that offer authentic tourist experiences and develop sustainable social, cultural and environmental management.

The selection process consists of two phases. In a first phase, the CCAA will choose from among all the applications received for a destination that they will present to the Secretary of State for Tourism. In a second phase, the Secretary of State for Tourism will choose a “winner” and 4 finalists.

The “winning” destination will receive the award in a ceremony to be held between June and August 2015, and will become part of the EDEN Network.
