Background of the norm

The initiative of the regulation of short-term rental and tourist service aims to harmonize and rationalize the framework for the generation and sharing of data on the rent short term accommodation throughout the eu. More specifically, the proposed new framework seeks to:

  • To harmonize the registration requirements for the hosts and rental properties of short duration
  • Establish clear rules to ensure that registration numbers show and
  • Streamlining the exchange of data between online platforms and the public authorities
  • Reuse data allow, in an aggregate information that will support the development of innovative services related to tourism;
  • Establish an effective framework of implementation: the member states shall monitor the implementation of this framework of transparency and establish penalties for failing to comply with the obligations of the rules of procedure.

Problems to be solved with the new standard

The proposed new rules will help to improve the transparency of the identification and activity of the hosts of this type of accommodation and the rules to be met, and will also facilitate the registration of those resolutions. In Addition, addressed the current fragmentation in the form in which online platforms share data and, ultimately, will help to prevent unlawful advertisement. In general, this would contribute to a more sustainable tourist ecosystem and will support its digital transition.
